BALIKESİR KUVA-Yİ MİLLİYE MUSEUM
History
The building, which was used as the Municipality building until it was changed to Kuva-yi Milliye Museum, was established as the mansion of Giridizade Mehmet Pasha, the Finance Minister of Karesi, in 1840. Later on, it was destructed as a result of a fire in 1800s, and Halit Pasha Mansion was established instead of it. It has been an important place during the War of Liberation.

The building, in which Balıkesir people gathered and decided to make an armed attack after the occupation of İzmir on May 15th, 1919, and in which the Kuva-yi Milliye fire shined, was used as headquarters of Army-corps Commander and Ali Hikmet Pasha for long years. The building has also been a working place for the Committee of İzmir Northern Fronts. The building, which was in the complex of the mansion, was used as "Reading Hall" in 1913, and also served as the "Library of National Struggle History" on May 18th, 1998. Atatürk stayed in this building when he first came to Balıkesir in 1923.
