The fortress was originally
constructed by the Romans as a seagate, but acquired
its present form after various additions during the
Byzantine and Lusignan times.
The fortress has a
|
|
rectangular plan, and
is made up of an outer and an inner wall. It is surrounded
by a moat. Access to the fortress was archived by a
mobile bridge, which does not exist today. The inner
courtyard of the fortress contains a large hall, basilicas
of various sizes and a cistern. At its present from,
the fortress reflects characteristics typical of medieval
architecture.
