It is situated on the
Müftü stream to the north of the city centre. Archeological
excavations at the HÖYÜK (tumulus), which consists of
33 layers belonging to different periods and civilisations,

have shown that the
history of the site dates back to about 6000 B.C., and
it has continuously been occupied up to the early Islamic
period.
Objects discovered during the excavations in Yumuktepe
are exhibited at the Mersin Museum..
