The “Bursa Provincial
Yearbook” states that thermal springs at Çekirge have
three different sources. The temperature and chemical
analysis of each of the sources is different. The springs
here are called “Steel” (i.e., iron). The springs are
of three types: Hot (female), warm (male) or horhor
(“powerful and noisy”) springs. The rate of flow of
the hot thermal water of the principle spring is 28
It./sec. with a temperature of 48° Centigrade. According
to the former Ottoman system of measurement, the rate
of flow of water or spring passing through a short pipe,
whose inner diameter is 26 mm. and whose axis is 96
mm. below the level of water or spring, equals 1 lüle-that
is, 36 It./min., or 52 cu. m./day. One lüle equals 4
kamis, which is the equivalent of 8 masura or 32 çuvaldiz
or 64 hilal. Ottoman sources indicate that the rate
of flow of this hot spring is 373 masura. The temperature
of the second-warm-spring is 38-40° at its source and
its rate of flow is 2.5 It,/sec. or 34 masura. The temperature
of the Horhor spring is variable. In rainy periods,
it becomes so cool that it cannot be used for bathing,
which suggests that it mingles with a subterranean fresh
water spring.
