MUGLA HIGHLANDS  

KÖYCEGIZ - AGLA VILLAGE HIGHLAND

Transport : The road leading to the highlands east of Köycegiz is asphalt for 4 km. and gravel for the remaining 8 km. There are minibuses which leave from Köycegiz.
Description : The residents of Köycegiz spend their vacations in this highland village whose wood houses

seem to have become one with the surrounding pines and sycamores, some of which are hundreds of years old. Every year on the first Thursday after the 13th of August the 'Mahya Festival' is held. The village has a post office, the usual teahouses, markets and small restaurants. The 18 km. trail which join this highland village to Çiçekbaba is a well-known trekking path. The small lake at Çiçekbaba makes a excellent camping site.

Transport : After going 49 km. on the Fethiye - Korkuteli - Antalya highway, turn south on the gravel road. The village is 3 km. There is year-round public transportation.
Description : This totally unspoiled highland covered with mountains meadows, wildflowers, and juniper and cedar trees which are hundreds of years old has no facilities. The nomadic Yörükler, who have continued their traditional way of life for hundreds of years,

set up their goat-hair tents here and pasture their flocks for 5 months out of the year.

FETHIYE - BABA MOUNTAIN

Transport : Turn towards the southwest after going 6 km down the asphalt road from Fethiye to Ölüdeniz. This 17 km mountain road winds through the forest to the village.
Description : With an elevation of 1700 m., the mountain of Baba Mountain is perfect for parachute gliding. In May the slopes of the mountain are graced with the red Taurus tulips and other wildflowers. It is a popular destination for campers and paragliders alike.

FETHIYE- DOKUZGÖL HIGHLAND
Transport :
During the summer there are minibuses that leave from Fethiye at certain times of the day for this highland village 25 km. southeast of the city.
Description : The Dokuzgöl highland is an unspoiled paradise and is frequented by the residents of Fethiye and the nomads from the neighboring villages. Its clean fresh air and natural beauty make it a favorite place for those who enjoy nature walks.

Those who plan on camping should bring their own tents and other basic supplies.

KAVAKLIDERE-GÖKÇUKURU HIGHLAND

Transport : It is possible to find transportation to this highland plateau south-southeast of Kavaklidere. It is a 14 km ride down a gravel road.
Description : The 1700 m. high pristine mountain plateau is covered with pine trees and meadows full of wildflowers. Red and variegated Taurus tulips grow wild here. It is possible to buy copper gifts and souvenirs made in Kavaklidere. There is a TV transmitter here as well.

Accommodation - Food and Drink : There are lodgings here built by the Forest Ministry but they are generally being used by athletes. It is possible to buy most daily necessities here.

MENTESE DISTRICT-YERKÜPE HIGHLAND
Transport :
Located southeast of Mentese, this highland can be reached by means of a gravel road (8 km). There is transportation to the village from Mentese.
Description : The residents live in simple highland houses surrounded by forests of pine and massive sycamore trees. Another reason to visit the village is to explore the nearby cave, which has a number of stalactites and stalagmites and even has two different entrances.
Accommodation - Food and Drink : Basic camping supplies can be obtained at Mentese.

MENTESE DISTRICT-ÖTEYAKA HIGHLAND
Transport :
Lying to the northwest of Mentese, the access to the village is provided by a gravel road (4 km). There are minibuses and taxis in Mentese for hire.
Description : The highland is 900 m. high and surrounded by pine forests. The stone and wood highland houses in the village situated amongst the fruit orchards and vegetable gardens. It is possible to purchase the famous Mentese carpets woven by the residents of the village.
Accommodation - Food and Drink : Basic camping supplies can be obtained at Mentese.
